For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations" (Isaiah 61:11).
I read this verse from my favorite morning email devotion and wanted to include it in this post about our garden. We first started one in '08 and have been hooked ever since- to grow your own food is really a neat thing and to have the kids get to be apart of it, even neater to watch them learn and discover new things each time.
Last year was our first year doing a year-around garden so after our winter harvest we let it rest for the past 6 weeks and got it plowed and ready for a new harvest. Heres a list of what we did and what grows well in this area this time of year- have fun and try it-- ull love it I promise!! *3 different types of lettuce ( we are doing romaine, spinach, and bibb though any lettuce grows well this time of year...) 2 different types of peas ( shelling and non-shelling sugar snap peas), onions, garlic ( mmm love to add this to our bread or our homemade pasta sauces!), zucchini, all kinds of herbs too really do good in this up coming warm weather ( we are doing dill, rosemary, chamomile, rose hip, sage, oregano, and basil). Think thats it till end of April and we will add our summer crops to this mix:D Now if someone can tell me how to keep the slugs away ( naturally and have tried beer- the dog drinks it before the slugs can get it!! lol) let me know!!
Happy Gardening!!

Kate, you are so good! We don't have a yard conducive to growing a garden :( My hubby would love it if we did!! I want to get with you and talk about making baby food. Call me sometime soon. Tutu makings are being bought this week...just need to know the approximate size you want. Love ya!! (Pics of the kids are great!!)
I have no suggestions on the slug problem, but thanks for the laugh as I pictured you dog drunk off beer! Have a great day!
